???                           Black Chitin Belt

You say, 'Hail, Broker Fahaar'

Broker Fahaar says 'Hello Kitzin, if you know any citizens looking for work please tell them to show me their acrylia slate.

Broker Fahaar says 'Excellent, I can always use someone eager to work. I require young rockhopper hides to stretch for some special tailoring projects. Combine in this sack the hides of four young rockhoppers and return to me the full hopperhide sack, I will give you a stretched hide in return.

Broker Fahaar says 'Very nice, I thank you Kitzin. Here is the stretched hide I promised, and a leather cord I made from the scraps. If you have no need for the hide itself, any merchant will purchase it from you. If you desire to become my apprentice, save four of the cords that you earn from me and return them when you desire to learn more.  May the spirits guide and protect you!

You gain experience!!

Broker Fahaar says 'So you wish to learn the way of the Vah Shir tailors, do you? I assure you it is among the most difficult to master of any of the great Vah Shir disciplines, but one of the most rewarding as well.  If you truly wish to learn how to manipulate fabrics and materials of all types you'll have to start with a basic task.  Take this Vah Shir skinning knife and use it to cut a [belt strap].  Once you feel that you've mastered that task, bring me an example of your work and the Vah Shir skinning knife I gave you and we'll start you on some needle work.

You gain experience!!

You say, 'What belt strap?'

Broker Fahaar says 'Belt straps are cut from medium quality rockhopper hides.  Just take the knife and cut a strap out of a good section in the hide.  The medium quality hides are nice and tough, but you have to search a bit to find a decent strip in the material.  Good luck with it.

Broker Fahaar briefly glances at the strap and throws it over his shoulder.  He then says, 'I can tell it's hurried work, but it will do.  I supposed you're ready to learn some needlework.  The needlework really makes the belt.  Here, this needle set will allow you to learn the basics of our trade. You'll want to practice on some [Black Chitin Belts] and some [Bone Beaded Belts].  Bring me one example of each of these and your needle set to show me that you've mastered the basics of this sort of needlework.  If your work is good enough you might be able to sell a piece or two as well.

You gain experience!!

You say, 'What Black Chitin Belts?'

Broker Fahaar says 'Black chitin belts are made by using the Vah Shir needle set and a Shade Silk to thread some sections of scorpion carapace onto a rough belt strap.  The belts look great and they are rumored to make you feel stronger. You'll want to use the Vah Shir needle set I just gave you with the silk, as normal needles will most likely break off if you try to push them through a scorpion carapace.

You say, 'What Bone Beaded Belts?'

Broker Fahaar says 'Bone beaded belts are made by threading grimling finger bones onto a rough belt strap with a Shade silk thread.  The bones are often tough to pierce, so you'll have to use your Vah Shir needle set on them.  Be careful not to poke yourself.

Dronqam Runghi (-250, 50)

Fortunately they grow in the crater just outside our city walls. Bring me a  redcapped mushroom, a pinch of scarlet moss and a bluecapped mushroom. I'll be most grateful.

Merchant Ahlam (-220, -180), in merchant store, second floor.

Seal of Ahlam           10 Grave leaves (Young Hopper, Lvl 2-4)

Acrylia Filter          Seal of Ahlam (Quest)

Merchant Ahlam says 'Many thanks Kitzin, I'll be going to brew this tea up for the guards now.  Take this seal as proof of your helping me.  You wouldn't happen to know anyone who would be [interested] in learning the art of Vah Shir Brewing would you?  I could really use the help in these hard times, I can barely keep up with all the demand.

You gain experience!!

You say, 'I am interested'

Merchant Ahlam says 'Is that so Kitzin?  I suppose I would be willing to teach you a few things about brewing, but you'll have to show me one of my seals before I begin your instruction.'

Merchant Ahlam says 'Well done Kitzin, it is now time to start down the path of learning the art of Vah Shir brewing.  You'll need a steady hand if you are to master the brew barrel.  The first thing you'll need to learn is how to purify the water we use for all our finest brews.  Take this Acrylia filter and use it to [purify water].  Bring me 4 flasks of crystal clear water and I'll teach you how to make the tea from the gravel tea leaves.

You say, 'How to purify water?'

Merchant Ahlam says 'Take a bottle to Gamali in Hollowshade Moor.  You'll find her somewhere around the Grimling fishing huts if I had to guess.  She'll fill the bottle with water for you.  Take this water and combine it with the Acrylia sand purifer.  That will yield the purest water you ever did drink Kitzin.

Animist Mahron Sood says 'I can tell by the manner in which you approached me that Poren did not explain what I would require of you, little friend.  Your development as a Khati Sha will be demanding.  Our expectations of you should only be exceeded by your own.  Our namesake, Khati Sha, was an unrivalled hero to our people.  The story of his life is an example that you will be expected to learn.  You will be expected to research and explore the path that he took and strive to understand what that path means for the future of our people.  Take this map to Kery Miann.  She will start you on the path.

If you bring me four grimling toes or finger bones, I'll trade them for one of my leather pieces.  Don't mix them up though.... I'm trying to see which he likes best... fingers bones or toes.

Kery Miann says 'Thanks for the Thin Leather Strap Kitzin.'

Kery Miann 's hands move deftly as she wraps the thin leather straps around the claws that you gave her.  She ends her task by tightening the straps with a few small metal clasps.  'Here youth, see if these fit.' She says as she hands you the claws.  She pulls a folded note from her waistband and hands it to you while saying, 'Take this note to Rittuh Purrik in the moor.  She needs assistance with a few matters.  Return a little later and I will teach you more.'

Claws                   (Quest)

7:28 Str+1 Dex+1

???                     2 Sonic Wolf pup molars (Lvl 15+)

Kaam Rahiir turns to you and squints at the claws that you've just given him.  'I see that you've been getting some use out of these things.  They are crude, but they seem sturdy enough.' He says as he returns the claws.  He hands you small bag and continues. 'I hope the combat you've seen has made an impression on you, young friend.  Combat is not pleasant, but it is often unavoidable.  We are explorers and conflict often breeds in the unknown.  Learn from each encounter and you are less likely to be trapped by conflict in the future.

Kaam Rahiir says 'In preparation for your journey down the path of Khati Sha, you will need to seek out the wolves of the moor.  You will need to learn the behavior and abilities of this enemy.  Once you have tracked and met these beasts, I will teach you how to best dispose of them in the future.  Place two molars from the mouth of one of their pups in that bag and return to me.  That will guarantee that you've come face to face with your foe.

Note: Wolf pups are found near the Cave to Grimmling Forest. Use Sense Animal to detect. Molars are a very rare drop. Place holders are Sonic Wolflings (17-20) and Sonic Wolves (28+).

Note: Shuriken, 4:29, 16cp, 60yd, wt. 0.5

Rytan says 'Hello Kitzin, I trust all is well with you today. Come in and have a look around, just let me know if you see anything you like. By the way, I am in need of the assistance of an official Shar Vahl citizen. If you know of any please send them my way.

Rytan says 'Here's my dilemma, I am low on darts to sell and I need to replenish my supply. I simply cannot break away from the store so I require your help. Fill this bag with xakra teeth and return the sealed bag to me. With those teeth I can make six darts and I'll give you three.

Rytan says 'Here are the three darts I promised you and a seal of mine. I need more darts desperately, so show me your acrylia slate to take another bag and fill it as you are able. Collect four of my seals and show them to me. I will reward you by revealing my method of dart construction.

You gain experience!!

Rytan says 'I thank you for your continued assistance, Kitzin. Here is a fletching tool that will enable you to fashion xakra tooth darts. You will first need to acquire a grimling skeletal femur and place it in a fletching kit with the tool. This will result in three bone shafts. Place a bone shaft, a xakra tooth and this tool in the fletching kit to make a dart. When your fletching skill no longer increases by making these darts you may give me your crafting tool and I will help you to upgrade it.

You gain experience!!

Rytan says 'I assume you are ready to make more challenging darts. Very well, attach this shaft to your crafting tool in a fletching kit and you will be able to make grimling fang darts. Keep in mind that once this is done you will lose the ability to craft xakra tooth darts. When the grimling fang darts become trivial you may wish to upgrade your tool again by giving me the grimling dart crafting tool.

You say, 'what grimling fang darts'

Rytan says 'A grimling fang combined with a bone shard will make a dart slightly better than the xakra tooth dart, which will also sell for slightly more.

Shroyer, castle kitchen

You say, 'Hail, Shroyer'

Shroyer is covered in flour as you approach her, she looks exhausted, but somehow manages to run around the kitchen at full speed. She says, 'I'm sorry Kitzin but I haven't time to chat right now.  The kings banquet is in three days and I'm out of rockhopper meat!

You say, 'what rockhopper meat'

You say, 'what meat'

Jalil Talih, castle

You say, 'Hail, Jalil Talih'

Jalil Talih says 'Oh, hello there Kitzin.  Thank you for stopping by, but this is just not a very good time for visitors.  My daughter is very upset over what has happened.

You say, 'what has happened?'

Jalil Talih looks up and says, 'Oh my, I thought everyone had heard by now.  Behari has gone missing.  Been quite some time now, in fact.  Even the king had gotten involved in the search for him, but...' Jalil lowers his voice to a whisper so as not to upset his daughter, 'everyone has about given up hope.  Soroush was the last we know of that had seen him, but he had very little helpful information.'

You say, 'who is soroush?'

Jalil Talih says 'Soroush has taken over Behari's duties... temporarily, at least.  He can usually be found right in the throne room in case he is needed.

Soroush Koroun, castle near throne room

You say, 'Hail, Soroush Koroun'

Soroush Koroun says 'Greetings to you, Kitzin.  I have just returned from another trip to Katta Castellum and am trying to organize my notes, I apologize that I've little time to talk.  Everything happened so suddenly what with the odd circumstances surrounding the last diplomat, I have not quite had time to get used to my new post.

You say, 'what last diplomat?'

You say, 'where is Behari?'

Soroush Koroun pauses to find the right words, 'Behari, the last to hold this post, disappeared on his last trip to Katta.  He was a friend of mine for some time, I never dreamed that I would have to undertake his duties in this way.  I believe that I was the last to see him alive.  His behavior at the time seemed peculiar, but I shrugged it off as simply a man blissfully in love,' he says with a heavy sigh, and adds somberly, 'I was very happy for him.'

Elder Spiritist Grawleh, Shaman Guild in castle

You say, 'Hail, Elder Spiritist Grawleh'

Elder Spiritist Grawleh examines the contents of the bag carefully. This is no ordinary spirit Kitzin. It is a whisperling, a bringer of dreams. You are quite lucky, I think she will go with you. She will be able to protect you from cold magic. If you need more protection you can call on her to help you endure the cold. This is how the Dar Khura weave their spells, we ask the spirits for their aid. This scroll will show you how to call on her for her protection. You will also need to construct her a more suitable spirit anchor. This claw will not contain her much longer. Please hurry to Ragnar with the claw and a fresh [bloodling carapace]. It may buy us some time before she fades away.

Spiritist Ragnar, herb shop near bank

You say, 'Hail, Spiritist Ragnar'

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Well hello... How may I help you?

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Eh? What have we here?'' Ragnar examines the frosted claw carefully. He closes his eyes and begins to chant while holding the claw cupped between his hands. As he opens his eyes he nods at you and begins to speak. ''You have done well to bring her here Kitzin. This is a whisperling, her name is Siver. She is very young, so it is hard for me to understand her. From what I gather, she has an important task to fulfill, but I am still unsure what that task may be. Please take her with you for now, I think that is her wish. Perhaps Grawleh will be able to assist us further, and maybe even find a more suitable anchor for her. I think it would be wise to show her to him.

You gain experience!!

--You have looted a A Bloodling Carapace.--

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Well done Kitzin, I hope it isnt too late.'' Ragnar begins to chant over the carapace and the claw, holding each in opposite hands. A soft light travels from the claw to the carapace as the claw turns to dust. Ragnar opens his eyes and begins to speak, ''It has worked, but all we have done is buy ourselves more time. While you were away, I have been speaking to Master Barkhem. He has a shield frame that can support these carapaces. You will need to craft such a shield by including this carapace and into the frame along with enough to fill each slot. You are doing quite well young Kitzin, Siver has grown a little stronger. You can make use of her innate dexterity by weaving this spell.''

Spiritist Ragnar Ragnar hands Kitzin a scroll before he continues to speak. ''When you have completed the construction of the shield, return it to me and I will strengthen the anchor.''

Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl got better.

You gain experience!!

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Nicely done Kitzin. This anchor should be sufficient to keep Siver bound to this realm for a while. She is strong enough to blind your enemies with a bright flash of light now, all you have to do is call on her spirit. I still cannot make complete sense of her thoughts, I think she is trying to tell me of another whisperling entrapped within the crater. Keep an eye open for the whisperling Scorpialis.

Spiritist Ragnar says 'In the meantime, you can seek out a shield made of Xakra. Xakra made of the ethereal fabric of the spirit realm. I know the Shak Dratha within the thicket are weavers of this rare form of shadow silk. Such a shield can help us strengthen the anchor, making it easier for Siver to aid you. It will also improve her health greatly. She has been through a lot and is in rather poor condition as it stands now.

????              Nepeta oil (vendor at south gate) + Shield Mold (vendor)

+ A Bloodling Carapace Plate (Quest) + Forge

                  (Blacksmithing skill ??)

You say, in Vah Shir, 'Hail, Master Barkhem'

Master Barkhem says 'Welcome to my shop. Please feel free to look around at the armor we have available. If you are looking for work, just let me know.

You say, 'What work?'

Master Barkhem says 'That's great news! I could really use a hand. I have constructed some shield frames ideal for use with the carapaces found on [bloodlings]. Unfortunately I do not have the time to collect any of the shells. You can either purchase the frames and keep the shields for yourself, or you can return them to me and I will compensate you for your troubles.

Master Barkhem takes the shield from Kytzin and glances it over. He smiles and nods his head in approval before speaking,  'This is some quality work my friend. Although you could use some practice in your style, I can sense true potential in your smithing skills.'  Master Barkhem rumages around behind his counter for a bit and pulls out a rather large bloodling carapace and hands it to Kytzin.  'This was too large for me to use for a shield, but I think you can craft it into some fairly good armor. Just treat it in a forge with nepeta oil and the proper mold, the oil should soften it up enough to become pliable.  Once fired in the forge it will harden to the mold.  I'd love to see how It turns out.'

Cha+2 plus Light

You say, in Vah Shir, 'Hail, Dharr Nadim'

Dharr Nadim says 'Step up, step up! Please take a moment to purchase some supplies from me.  Times are hard and my [luck] has been bad.

You say, 'What luck'

Dharr Nadim says 'I have just come from Hollowshade Moor a few weeks ago.  My fishing days have been very unprosperous. The lures that I have now are made of low quality Acrylia and scare the fish away rather than attract them.  I want to make a new lure, and on my way in I noticed the dull color of the [scorpions].  I would have moved closer to them but unfortunately  I am deathly allergic to the poisons found in scorpion venom.

You say, 'What scorpions'

Dharr Nadim says 'The scorpions are at the bottom of the canyon surrounding the city.  If you can bring me four shells to make a few lures, I will give you my old lure.  Be careful making your way down the ledges, as there are many steep drops.

Dharr Nadim says 'Excellent, hopefully my fishing business can start to thrive once again!  As I said before you can have this old lure.  You won't be able to catch anything with it but maybe you can pawn it off to a jewelry merchant.

Overheard

Animist Simol says 'We have been in the moor for the last few nights.  The creatures there are acting the same as always.  Honestly, I think we should let them kill each other off.

Khala Dun Erelk says 'That's interesting... I wonder if we could do more to control their behavior.  You're the Animist... What results do you think that sort of thing would have?

Animist Simol says 'What, cause them to fight it out?  It's plausable, but what would you recommend.  I really can't see any sort of advantage from siding with one species or the other, but you never know.

Khala Dun Erelk says 'I couldn't tell you for sure, but if they are moving to eat grimlings... they are moving in the right direction.  It would be one less grunt for me to wipe from my blades.

Ahahd Tolm says 'So mate, are you just in from a patrol?

Taruun Jaur says 'Aye, the Sergeant's had us in the moor all week. It's been a long week too.  The critters out there are behaving all peculiar.

Erat Almar says 'Eh, what do you mean by peculiar?

Taruun Jaur says 'Well, I'll tell you a quick story if you fill my mug again.  Sound like a deal?  Otherwise, I'll just head over to Rawlf's place and let him hear it.

Ahahd Tolm says 'Sure thing, mate.  You know I'm a sucker for good gossip.

Taruun Jaur says 'Okay... here it goes... We were all sneaking along on patrol one night.  We had just broke camp and were moving along the ledge near the big Hollowshade wolf cave.  When we got near the cave, we notice a large pack of those nasty buggers... like eight or nine massive wolves... and they were coming right at us!

Ahahd Tolm says 'Oh my! Did ya kill 'em!

Erat Almar says 'Whoa! What did you do?

Taruun Jaur says 'No no... this is where it gets weird.  The creatures just walked right through our patrol.  They acted like they didn't even see us.  We were all tensed up and ready for a fight and those beasts just ignored us.  We stood still for a few moments and let them pass.  Then it got a bit weirder.

Ahahd Tolm says 'Bah! It couldn't get weirder. That's weird enough! Take a moment to finish your drink and then tell me what happened.

Taruun Jaur says 'Well, it does... We didn't just stand there.  After the beasts walk by us, we followed them for a while.  The critters let us walk right along with them.  It was the first time I'd ever heard of anyone doing that.  We followed them until they moved into the palms just outside of the owlbear den.  We took cover, while the wolves moved up to attack the den.  That's when we took off.  Things got ugly really fast.

Ahahd Tolm says 'Well... is that it?

Taruun Jaur says 'Well, once the fighting broke out, we moved to safety... so... Yep, that's the story.  Thanks for the ale, mate.

Tailfang dagger   1 Tailfang's tail (Tailfang, Lvl 4-5)

You say, 'Who is Tailfang?'

Dar Khura Pyjek says 'Tailfang has been responsible for many attacks. He is quite sly, and as yet our Taruun have been unable to find him. I saw him once, long ago.  I was searching for bluecapped mushrooms among the stones when I saw something shiny underneath one of the rocks. As I got closer to look, Tailfang sprung at me with a dagger in hand no less!  I swear this on my honor, although I still cannot believe it myself. I tried to slay the little bugger, but he ran off. I did get his dagger though, it's yours if you bring me proof of his death.

Captain Alim, north newbee area

???                     3 Deathmaw Claws(not tooth shaped) + practice flail (bought)

                        Firefall(18+), and Shredder, Claw Beast

You say, 'Hail, Captain Alim'

Captain Alim says 'Have you come for training young one?  The way of the Beastlord teaches many things about the forces of nature.  The [forces] in the thicket are very interesting.

You say, 'what forces'

Captain Alim says 'Yes, the force that compels a creature to adjust to their surroundings in particular.  The Saruek have seem to adapted to their environment very well.  I am studying the effects of their claws.   It seems the different [variety] of Saruek have special enhancements.

You say, 'what variety'

Captain Alim says 'Well, for example the Firefall Saruek can attack with claws that burn the flesh, the Deathmaw attack with poisonous claws, the shredder Saruek are especially skilled in fending off the Tegi that threaten them, and lastly there is a more uncommon Claw Beast that is very strong but does not appear that often.  I believe I could take their claws and affix them to a weapon to [enhance] it.

You say, 'what enhance'

Captain Alim says 'If you would like to test this theory go hunt these Saurek.  Bring me three claws each for Deathmaw, Firefall, and Shredder.  Due to the reported size of the Claw Beast I only need his talons.  Along with these claws bring me a wooden practice flail to fasten the claws to.  Go now I have many trainees waiting to be taught.

Captain Alim says 'Thanks for the Darkclaw Claw Kitzin.'

Not the tooth shaped one, the claw shaped one is rarer and the one used.

You say, 'I have come to help'

Captain Koldar says 'Then why are you standing around! Can't you see the invading forces of the Shak Dratha approach our town? Destroy them and bring me four of their bloody hearts as proof of your deed. Snap to it!

You say, 'Hail, Captain Tarief'

Captain Tarief says 'Well met, have you [come to aid] us in hunting the hoppers of the thicket?

You say, 'I come to aid'

Captain Tarief says 'If you are preparing to hunt, then there are a few things you should know. Some of the hoppers have unique abilities. Knowledge of these abilities can mean the difference between life and death. I will tell you a little bit about them if you [wish to listen.]

You say, 'I wish to listen'

Captain Tarief says 'A wise choice, it is good to learn all that you can of the prey before initiating the hunt. Such a tactic is vital when you set out for larger game. Learn of your prey's strengths and weaknesses and you shall have the upper hand. Saurek's may all seem similar to one another at first glance, but this is not the case. Such a mistake has left many Taruun dead. I have learned that the darkclaw saureks have venom dripping from their claws. There are a few other [unique qualities] to the saureks as well.

You say, 'What unique qualities?'

Captain Tarief says 'Each of the saureks have their own unique set of scales. I am able to tell which saurek my trainees have managed to hunt successfully by the scale they return to me. Feel free to join in our lesson or the hunt. I hope that you will benefit from my advice. Hunt well Kitzin.

Captain Tarief says 'What have we here? Aha! Look here everyone. Kitzin has returned victorious! Well done. You are entitled to the reward for slaying the Saurek Hoppers. I hope all my trainees turn out as skilled as you. Perhaps you should consider hunting more difficult prey from now on.'' Captain Tarief hands Kitzin a pair of masterfully tailored hunting boots.

Captain Tarief blinks in astonishment. ''Perhaps the true shredder was you this time around Kitzin'' He chuckles, ''Well done, you have earned the reward.'' Tarief hands Kitzin a pair of masterfully tailored hunting sleeves. ''Be sure to have your battle wounds tended to. I am sure you have many scars to show from hunting those shredders.''

Trainee Paelin

You say, 'Hail, Trainee Paelin'

Trainee Paelin says 'It is an honor to meet a fellow hunter. I am training to learn how to hunt down the [saurek] that roam the thicket. It is our duty as taruun to provide food for our kin. I plan on claiming captain Tarief's [reward].

You say, 'what saurek'

Trainee Paelin says 'The Saurek hoppers are far more aggressive than the needle clawed hoppers. We must hunt them down and kill them lest they attack our families and traders that wander through these thickets. They have many uses to us as well. Their meat gives us food to eat, and their hides make strong protective armor.

You say, 'what reward'

Trainee Paelin says 'Captain Tarief has offered to reward those that slay four of the saurek hoppers. You must return four of their scales to him as proof of your deeds to claim the reward. I hope to bring honor to my family by returning home with such a trophy.

Trainee Jonkar

You say, 'Hail, Trainee Jonkar'

Trainee Jonkar says 'Well met Kitzin. Pay close attention to Captain Tarief's words of advice. It takes a skillful hunter to kill a Saurek [Darkclaw]. His advice could mean the difference between life and death.

You say, 'What darkclaw'

Trainee Jonkar says 'The darkclaws are nasty beasts. Their claws are much thicker than the smaller saureks. Tarief has offered a reward to any that return with four of their scales to him. Don't get any ideas now. That reward is mine, I assure you.

Trainee Naria

You say, 'Hail, Trainee Naria'

Trainee Naria says 'Have you noticed the vicious Saurek [Shredders] out in the thicket? I wouldn't want to hunt one of those nasty things.

You say, 'what shredders'

Trainee Naria says 'The shredder has been known tear young hunters apart in mere seconds. I would stay far away from those things if I were you. Tarief has offered a reward for any that bring him four of their scales, but I just don't think it would be worth facing such a beast in battle. The meat from the smaller ones are just as good to eat if you want my opinion.

Trainee Bargidin

You say, 'Hail, Trainee Bargidin'

Trainee Bargidin says 'Alas, I have little will in me to talk right now. It is a [sad time] for me.

You say, 'what sad time'

Trainee Bargidin says 'My good friend Torin had gone into the thicket alone a few days ago. There has been no sign of him since then. I fear the [Saurek Deathmaws] have gotten hold of him.

You say, 'what Saurek Deathmaws'

Trainee Bargidin says 'The deathmaw would be the only thing that could kill Torin. He could handle just about any other hopper, but I don't think very many can survive a deathmaw attack. [Reward] be damned, I vow I will someday slay those beasts if it the last thing I do.

You say, 'What reward'

Trainee Bargidin says 'Tarief has offered a pair of magically crafted leggings to any that can return with four of the deathmaw scales. If you decide to take on such a deadly task, please try to find out what happened to Torin. He deserves a good burial at least.

You say, 'what garbage'

Faer Shahar says 'Careless travelers from Shadow Haven leave their rubbish along our roads. They attract vermin and can smell just horrid. I try my best to keep the road clean, but it seems that I cannot keep up with the filth.

Groo McManus, just outside city

You say, 'Hail, Groo McManus'

Groo McManus says 'Greetings adventure seeker. I have come from afar to study this strange thicket. The spirits are strong within this region, but they are secretive as well.  I am willing to impart my wisdom to those who will aid me in my exploration. Are you [interested?]

You say, 'I am interested'

Groo McManus says 'Very well then! Let us begin.  First you must attune yourself with the nature of spirits. For this you must learn to find a spiritual anchor. Find such a thing within the crater that surrounds Shar Vahl and return it to me.  Then we may continue. I cannot tell you more, but there is a Vah Shir who has the knowledge that you seek. Seek him out in this thicket to learn what you can.

Groo McManus says 'Excellent! You have done well.  I can sense that you are in tune with the spirits around you. Take this, for you will need it in your next task. When you are [ready] for your next lesson let me know.

You gain experience!!

You say, 'i am ready'

Groo McManus says 'You have learned a fraction of the nature of the spirit. To exist within our realm they must become a part of our realm by binding themselves within material. The hoplings claws have evolved to tear spirits from their  material anchors. A disrupted anchor will normally send a spirit to the planes in which they belong, but sometimes the spirit becomes lost. This has happened within the crater that surrounds Shar Vahl. We must do what we can to [help] the lost spirit. The lost spirit had found the nearest anchor to take refuge in when its own anchor was destroyed. The spirit now lies trapped within the very claws of the hopling that had tried to destroy it. Will you help?

You say, 'i will help'

Groo McManus says 'Near the south bridge of Shar Vahl city, a mysterious rock formation hangs precariously within the crater. When you have arrived, you stand beneath the rock and call to the wind, speak the word 'Lumanes', be sure to clear all thoughts from your mind when doing so. If we are not too late, a kindred spirit will speak with you. Take your discoveries to my friend Shavra in the crater, she will know what to do.

Kojinn Kaa says 'Many have come before me and made such claims.  Your fervor is appreciated, but I require proof that you are a hero whose heart is with us before I can entrust you with such a sacred mission.  Have you something to show that you have earned our trust?

Kojinn Kaa says 'You have proven yourself a hero of our cause, and so I entrust you with this information: the poachers have set up an outpost in the caves on the outskirts of the thicket.  Go and wreak havoc upon this deplorable filth that has mistreated our friends.  As a badge of the honor you have earned, construct a champion's robe and have the High Priestess Bast bless it for you.  The ceremony will require three drops of the blood of those who would bring harm to the felidae.  It will be the High Priestess's honor to receive you.

[Thu Dec 13 21:40:43 2001] Tiamon Aroo says 'The claws of the hoppers act as a [spirit anchor]. They are specialized in tearing into the fiber of the shadow beings that roam the thicket. I find these claws useful in [binding] the silk fashioned by the [shadeweavers].

Tayn says, in Combine Tongue, 'How binding'

Tiamon Aroo says 'A spirit must be bound to material from our own realm. Stones such as those used to build cities can be great anchors for spirits. The more ritual and culture that a stone is exposed to, the stronger it becomes as an anchor. You can use the claws of a hopper to sew the shadeweavers silk onto a suitable anchor. If you bring me four of these claws, I can fashion one of them into a needle for you.

You say, 'What shadeweavers?'

Tiamon Aroo says 'The shadeweavers hunt the beings of shadow found within the thicket. From them they fashion their shadow armor they call Xakra. We have tried to use this strong and lightweight armor in the past, but the shadows just disperse. I have found that sewing this armor onto a suitable [spirit anchor] will keep it from dispersing.

You say, 'what spirit anchor?'

Tiamon Aroo says 'A spirit can only materialize within our realm by binding themselves to an object that is a spirit anchor. Some bones and stones have such properties. A spirit anchor can also do the most damage to the material form of such spirits when used as a weapon. I use the claws of the hoppers as a sewing needle of sorts to [bind the silk] made by the [shadeweavers]. A standard sewing needle would only pass through the substance of the silk. The hopper claws can pierce through their ethereal fabric effectively.

You say, 'Why bind the silk?'
